Thanks for putting your thoughts out so quickly. It resonated with me, especially these words about the uncertain future we face as a country that has always believed in free speech - "..Strip the jersey off to see the stakes: the medium (i.e. standing in the open and answering anyone) is what’s under fire. A society that shoots at that is flirting with suicide."
I did not necessarily agree with Charlie Kirk said.
But, my thoughts kept racing with horror that one can not stand in the open, and simply dialogue, as you say, as Socrates did.
But, then again, look what happened to him.
Your words ring true globally, for everywhere there is rising strife, binary conflict and anxiety that creates chaos, just look at France’s “Block Everything” today.
Our reaction is to ask ourselves: What was Charlie Kirk doing?
Speaking openly,
honouring everyone,
engaging in respectful dialogue with all.
So then, multitudes of us who wish to honour that path he choose,
This is an extraordinary essay, written so quickly, and yet, gathering my thoughts far better than I was. Mine kept racing with the horror, that one can not stand in the open, and simply dialogue, as you say, as Socrates did. But, then again, look what happened to him.
Your words ring true Globally, for everywhere there is strife, conflict- just look at France today- and anxiety that creates chaos.
Yes, let us hope there IS a eucatastrophe available.
Let us hope this shocking assassination shocks people enough that they stand back, consider the first principles that founded most nations AND most of all, step forward to take back what has been lost .
Extraordinary you could write a well-reasoned essay so soon after the assassination. Lots to consider here. Thanks
Thank you, Joe. It just poured out of me in a frenzied, manic state. May he rest in peace.
