Our Great Stasis
A Litany
We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war. Our Great Depression is our lives.
—Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club
Above: Modernity is just a mass of silhouettes at standstill.
So many tools, no one is working.
So many words, no one is writing.
So many articles, no one is reading.
So many courses, no one is learning.
So many options, no one is choosing.
So many podcasts, no one is listening.
So many connections, no one is talking.
So many opinions, no one is convincing.
So many doors, no one is knocking.
So many paths, no one is walking.
So many cures, no one is healing.
So many answers, no one is questioning.
So many jokes, no one is laughing.
So many tears, no one is crying.
So many prophets, no one is believing.
So many prayers, no one is kneeling.
So much intelligence, no one is thinking.
So much freedom, no one is free.
So much for so much that gives so little.
Per my about page, White Noise is a work of experimentation. I view it as a sort of thinking aloud, a stress testing of my nascent ideas. Through it, I hope to sharpen my opinions against the whetstone of other people’s feedback, commentary, and input.
If you want to discuss any of the ideas or musings mentioned above or have any books, papers, or links that you think would be interesting to share in a future edition of White Noise, please reach out to me by replying to this email or following me on X.
With sincere gratitude,
Tom
