You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!
—Dr. Seuss
Whimsy is as whimsy does.
Without it, life’s all fuzz and buzz.
You chew on your cud, you thud like a dud,
And you plod through your days in the same old mud.
Whimsy has sass and whimsy has class.
It lends to life a bit of gas.
It lightens your burdens and brightens your moods
No matter how badly you’re aching to brood.
For a day will come when you’re all done in,
When life has socked you square on the chin.
And that is the moment, right then and right there,
When whimsy comes waltzing right up the stair
With life and with love and with joy and with bliss
And a fizz and a whizz and a whoop and a kiss
To conquer whatever has gone amiss.
So take up your satchel, your sack and your bag.
You’ll need every one to outwit the Hag,
Who says that there’s nothing to life but the grind,
And drains all your joy and leaves nothing behind.
But life is a game. And the rule is just one:
The player with whimsy has already won.
So shake off the mud, you magnificent dud.
Go fizz, go be silly, go giggle, go leap,
For whimsy's the one thing worth trying to keep.
Per my about page, White Noise is a work of experimentation. I view it as a sort of thinking aloud, a stress testing of my nascent ideas. Through it, I hope to sharpen my opinions against the whetstone of other people’s feedback, commentary, and input.
If you want to discuss any of the ideas or musings mentioned above or have any books, papers, or links that you think would be interesting to share in a future edition of White Noise, please reach out to me by replying to this email or following me on X.
With sincere gratitude,
Tom
