I think our beliefs shape our behaviour in unperceivable (to us) ways, and these unperceivable changes can have a tangible effect on those around us -- thus creating an illusion that our beliefs alone shape the Universe.
There might be other real-world processes that would further amplify, again unexpectedly, the effects of beliefs on our environment. Still it's no magic. The important take, I guess, is that even if we see no reason why we should succeed, we might still want to try because there could be forces in play that we are not aware of, and they could make what seems impossible possible.
