Purposefully ironic, Tom? “Revenge of the Regular Joe.” OK, well Regular Joe, at least the Homo Regularis Scrantonilius version, exacted a cold revenge on his apprentice. Perhaps the way he was unceremoniously de-regulated and shown the door left a noxious aftertaste in his wrinkled maw. The MAGA cap, the “his-supporters-are-garbage” comment, the broad smile during his post-election comments might be clues, don’tcha think? But sure enough, the real Regular Joes across the country were thrilled to contribute in the only way they could, by voting. Not just for a sliver of revenge, but more for the real hope of a Brighter Tomorrow.
While I appreciate this clear-headed commentary on one possible explanation for the outcome of the election, I was a little irked by the depiction that the regular man and woman just wants something to eat. I find that strangely condescending in a piece that is shedding light on this same error in judgment. I assume it was a kind of parallel figure of speech vis a vis the democrats having their cake and eating it, too, but it still made me uncomfortable.
Interesting, Counter Service. I see what you mean but I liked that turn of phrase.
I’m old and retired and financially ok but have young relatives with children making $20/hr and paying $1300 rent, high gas to commute, after school care, etc. I know my husband and I did that but it looks harder now somehow.
I wasn’t picking fights, just noticing the power of words. I also don’t know what elite socialists (if that’s a thing) have to do with this but thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Very nice compilation of thoughts Tom Thanks. Especially that last Lewis quote.
revenge of everybody against the Bureaucratic Industrial Complex

Thanks for reading and replying! No condescension intended, just using a figure of speech as you suspected.
