The larger reality is that we live in a culture of multiple simulations. Pornography is one. Politics, entertainment, sports, and media are others. I call it The Spectacle of the Real - https://edbrenegar.substack.com/p/the-spectacle-of-the-real.

Even my own family, extended or otherwise, envy the amount of money that a woman like Sophie Rain makes. They are otherwise good, decent people. They should weep for these women, instead. It would be pure agony to live their lives.

Amen. It’s so sad.

Never questioning the process.

Never even considering who is on the other side of the screen. Just that thought alone gives me the chills.

Its way worse than that. The top girls are being pimped by marketing teams.

"All these girls, aisha, summer and Sophie all are under the same agency in a shared mansion they pay monthly rent on and are controlled by older men . They r put on a content schedule and when u involve management , you’re touching less than 50% of that income - girl who used to do of"

Even worse, when the stack of cards crumbles, when an instance or compilation of testimonies finally makes OF an admonishable practice for "mainstream" outlets, and thus, the loudest voices on social media, the girls will still be applauded for their exercise of 'freedom'.

Thank you for saying this. My wife have been talking about this a lot. While it's very poor behavior what these women are doing and damages our society, the men are far worse for supporting it. This whole industry dies if the demand goes away.

Men have become hallowed shells of addiction and apathy. I've been free from porn for almost 5 years and it's been an absolute game changer. Your quote about wolves is spot on.

More men need to hold other men accountable to this atrocious behavior.

I absolutely agree that men need to hold each other accountable. Once this becomes more common, I believe it could lead to significant positive change. Unfortunately, many men are more likely to listen to other men than to women, which is a sad reality, but if men start pushing each other to rise above destructive behaviors, it could shift things.

Surprise, surprise, men are getting the blame again. However, it’s not men that are the issue here. It’s a societal issue that will always exist (to some degree). Nobody is forcing these women into prostitution. They are voluntarily selling their bodies and that’s their right to do so. The reason more men are choosing porn and parasocial relationships is because of how toxic (most) modern women have become. The dating scene is in ashes. Women need to take accountability for their actions, not just men. Females opt out of porn and prostitution and the industry dies. Males opt out of partaking in consuming said industry, and it dies. It works both ways.

There certainly are both sides to blame - I think the author was trying more so to show that if the majority of financing stopped (primarily male accounts) than the site would lose enough to become irrelevant.

You are correct that women are selling themselves voluntarily except in cases where they are being sex trafficked which doesn't seem to be a high percentage of this website although that would be hard to estimate and prove.

The industry however would not simply die if women opted out as you said, as a large portion of the pornography industry especially outside of America is ran by cartels of sex traffickers. But the site in question here is primarily American accounts.

It will change. As men hold each other accountable, women will feel empowered to hold the same kind of standards. Men have to lead with their actions and that starts with the discipline to get our lives together and quit the toxic and damaging behaviors. Men and women are made to work together 🙏

I fear men need cheap forms of intimacy since the cost to procreate is so high. you need to be mentally strong, fearless and willing to deny thyself. Not an easy feat in a sea of pleasures.

Well written deep dive - there seems to be no positives to this particular site existing. I know at least a couple in my life who has had marital problems specifically due to use of this site.

Imo (and my wife's opinion) using a site like this where there is a transactional element is cheating much like how a strip club is. So it's basically an anti social strip club on steroids.

The problem is that this particular form of dopamine is so addictive that even when men know it's the wrong thing to be doing and the shame they feel is real, it's incredibly difficult to stop the addiction.

I look at this through the lens of what I call The Spectacle of the Real - https://edbrenegar.substack.com/p/the-spectacle-of-the-real. If we step back and view the larger context, we’ll see that this selling of images transcends every aspect of society. Why don’t we align the OnlyFans girls with members of Congress who are practicing insider trading behind closed doors. Is there a moral equivalence there? Or the Collège athletes who are now being paid extraordinary sums to play a game without being loyal to their universities. The reality is that these spectacles are modern enterprises of exploitation. The history of quickly gained wealth is that it is frequently gone with the wind.

Thank you for including those statistics! I knew it was bad, but I didn't imagine it was 1 in 50 women between the ages of 18 and 45 bad. That's way more OnlyFans creators than society can comfortably contain. Not to think it'll probably keep going up too.
